Apex Power Generation

Oroville Natural Gas Plant

Reliable energy when it matters most.
In 2024, Apex acquired the facility formerly known as Oroville Cogeneration LP and restarted operations on January 1, 2025. Now operating as the Apex Power Generation LLC owned by Apex Power Generation, this natural gas–powered facility helps stabilize the grid during periods of peak demand.

A Proven History

Originally commissioned in 1990, the plant has a long heritage serving California’s energy needs. With a design capacity of 7.7 MW, it has historically provided fast, flexible generation to support the regional grid.

Refurbished & Modernized

In partnership with Apex Enterprises Inc., the plant underwent a full refurbishment before relaunch. Upgrades included:

  • Mechanical overhauls of generator units

  • Updated controls and instrumentation

  • Refurbished emissions and safety systems

These improvements ensure efficient, reliable operation that meets today’s standards.

Fast, Flexible Power

As a reserve power plant, the Oroville facility is designed to operate on demand. It can be dispatched quickly during high-load events, supplying supplemental power that helps prevent outages and maintain grid stability.

Local Impact

  • Strengthens regional resilience by adding local capacity in Oroville

  • Provides dispatchable generation to complement renewable energy sources

  • Revives a long-standing facility, ensuring it continues to serve the community for decades to come
